
Jazmine was born and raised within Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Her mother Pam has been a previous backup singer for Philadelphia International Records. Her father gave her a job as the curator of the Historic Strawberry Mansion. She along with her family moved into the landmark. In 2005 she was a graduate of the Philadelphia High School for the Creative and Performing Arts with singer-music major. Sullivan was first singing in the kids' chorus as a contralto and then she joined the adult chorus a couple of years after that. Sullivan was not exposed to secular music until he was a teenager. "I was singing for the first time solo in church, and somebody asked me to commit to a gospel record when I was 11. However, I was not ready for that," she says. "Then when McDonald's offered a competition to kids in major cities, I got a chance to sing 'Accept Whatever God Wills' on Showtime in the Apollo and the audience was very enthusiastic". She performed with Stevie Wonder at his grandson's birthday party at thirteen. Sullivan was 15 when she, was first signed to Jive Records. It was her first time signing with Jive Records around the age of 15. She produced an entire album but this album never saw release. Sullivan was then dropped by the label. Missy Elliott was her producer for some songs on their debut album. Of these "Backstabbers" composed by Timbaland that Elliott composed was one of Sullivan's top tracks.
